When a Full Design Package Is Required
Under Kazakhstan law (SP RK A.2.2-1-2001), project documentation is mandatory for:
- Buildings over 500 m²;
- Structures taller than 15 m;
- Buildings in seismically active areas (Almaty and the surrounding region — 8–9 magnitude);
- Structures in specially protected zones.
For small hangars up to 500 m², simplified working documentation may be sufficient in some cases. Check with your local akimat (municipal administration).
Hangar Design Stages
1. Design Brief (Technical Assignment)
The client specifies: intended use, area, height, number of gates, heating requirements, and positioning on the site. A good brief is half the project.
2. Geotechnical Investigation
Borehole drilling and soil analysis. Determines the foundation type. Cost: 150,000 to 500,000 ₸ depending on the site area.
3. Conceptual Design
Overall building layout, dimensions, configuration. Approved by the client before detailed design begins.
4. Working Documentation
Full set of drawings:
- Architectural solutions (AR);
- Structural solutions (SR) — foundation, frame, roof;
- Engineering services (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, communications);
- Cost estimate documentation.
5. Technical Review (where required)
Buildings above a certain responsibility class undergo state or independent technical review. Duration: 30–45 days.
6. Obtaining a Construction Permit
Issued by the akimat at the location of the site. Duration: 10–30 working days.
