Tent Hangars: Advantages and Limitations

A tent hangar is a metal frame covered with heavy-duty PVC fabric. In Kazakhstan it is used primarily as a temporary or seasonal solution. It is chosen not because it is better, but because it is faster and cheaper at the outset.

Where a Tent Hangar Is Justified

  • Temporary storage during construction of a permanent facility.
  • Seasonal use — sheltering equipment or harvest for 3–4 months.
  • Events and exhibitions — exhibition pavilions, trade canopies.
  • Construction sites — sheltering materials and equipment.
  • Rental business — the structure is dismantled and transported.

Limitations for Kazakhstan's Climate

Kazakhstan is one of the harshest climatic regions for tent structures:

Winter. At −30°C and below, PVC fabric loses elasticity and becomes brittle. Snow loads in Almaty and Karaganda regions can exceed the design values for standard tents.

Summer. At +40°C outside, the fabric heats the interior to +70°C — without ventilation this is critical for any stored goods.

Wind. Steppe regions (Aktobe, Kostanay oblasts) with winds of 25+ m/s require a reinforced frame.

When the Tent Loses to Metal on Cost

With a planning horizon of 5+ years, a tent hangar ends up costing more than a metal one due to:

  • PVC sheet replacement every 5–8 years (30–50% of original cost);
  • repair of fastening elements;
  • the impossibility of insulating it and reducing storage operating costs.

With a planning horizon of more than 3 years, a metal hangar is economically preferable.

Ключевой вывод
A tent hangar is a sensible choice for a period of up to 2–3 years or when a mobile solution is required. For permanent use, a metal hangar is cheaper calculated over its full service life.
